FAQ

Fainto — frequently asked questions

Pricing & access

Is Fainto free?

Yes. Fainto is free. The budget tracker and the basic AI coach cost nothing. Premium is optional and adds larger on-device AI models plus opt-in cloud AI. You can track your money and get coaching without paying.

Does Fainto need an account?

No account is required. You can open Fainto and start tracking immediately. Accounts are optional, so you never have to hand over an email to see your own money.

Privacy & data

What data does Fainto collect?

By default, nothing about your money leaves the device. The website's pages set no cookies and run no analytics or trackers (the optional web companion talks to Google's Firebase only for the pairing or sign-in you request — see the privacy policy), and the app is built so that your financial data stays on your phone. The app can show you 0 requests. Anything is sent only when you deliberately opt in — Cloud AI, an account for backup & sync, or web pairing.

Is my financial data uploaded to the cloud?

Not by default. Fainto is private by architecture, not by policy: your data has nowhere to go unless you choose it. Opt-in Cloud AI sends your message with an aggregated summary, and an optional account backs up and syncs your data to your private space in the cloud — both strictly off until you enable them yourself.

Does Fainto show ads?

No. There are no ads in Fainto — nothing is wedged between your transactions — and there are no trackers, analytics, or cookies watching what you do.

Is Fainto really private if it uses AI?

Yes. In the default on-device mode, the AI runs on your phone, so using the coach does not send your data anywhere. Because the models are local, private AI and privacy are not a trade-off in Fainto — the coaching happens on your phone.

What does "private by architecture, not by policy" mean?

It means the privacy guarantee is built into how the app works, not just promised in a document. Your money data stays on the device because it has nowhere else to go by default, rather than because a policy says a company won't misuse it.

AI & on-device models

What AI models run on-device in Fainto?

Five small AI language models run on your phone, so coaching never needs a server. Think of each model as a brain for the coach: the bigger the number, the smarter and more detailed its answers, but the more memory it uses. Free: SmolLM 135M and Qwen 2.5 0.5B, quick and light. Premium: Qwen 2.5 1.5B, DeepSeek R1 1.5B and Phi-4 Mini 3.8B, which handle harder questions. The number is the model's size in billions of parameters (B) or millions (M).

What is Cloud AI and is it optional?

Cloud AI is an optional Premium feature that routes your questions to a larger model through OpenRouter when your phone can't hold one big enough. It is strictly opt-in and off by default — if you never enable it, nothing about your money is ever sent to the cloud.

How does the on-device AI coach work?

One of five local language models reads your spending and answers your money questions directly on the phone. You can pick a lightweight model for speed or a larger one for more depth, and it all runs without a round trip to the cloud.

Coverage & availability

Does Fainto work offline?

Yes. The AI models and your data live on the phone, so Fainto works fully offline — you can log spending and get coaching with the network off. Only the optional extras need a connection: opt-in Cloud AI, account backup & sync, and web pairing — all off unless you turn them on.

Which countries does the tax engine support?

Fainto's built-in income-tax engine covers 45 countries — 44 country configurations plus a bespoke Poland engine — so the numbers reflect where you actually live rather than a generic default.

How many languages does Fainto support?

The interface is localised in 25 languages, so the app reads naturally in your own language and pairs with the multi-country tax engine for your region.

Is there an iPhone or iOS version of Fainto?

Yes. Fainto is on the App Store for iPhone, at https://apps.apple.com/us/app/fainto-ai-budget-expense/id6796686042, alongside the Android app on Google Play.

Where can I download Fainto?

Fainto is on Google Play, listed as "Fainto: AI Finance Coach", at https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vaultai.app, and on the App Store at https://apps.apple.com/us/app/fainto-ai-budget-expense/id6796686042.
